Unique ideas for repurposing old jewellery
Don’t leave your family heirloom jewellery sitting in a safe or a bank, take the opportunity to transform it into something modern, beautiful and can be worn every day.
Here are a few ideas to get you started …
Find a new way to wear old jewellery
A chunky necklace crafted out of many colourful gemstones may be of no use to you, but don’t panic, you can actually wear it in a different way. Try wrapping the entire necklace around your wrist for a unique version of the current layered jewellery trend.
Re-imagine what you have
Have you inherited an old gold watch that no longer works and can’t be fixed? Head to the jewellers and have the watch face removed, turning it into a lovely bangle. Many of us have had lovely bejewelled brooches handed down to us but they just aren’t worn much anymore. Have a tiny loop added to the back of the brooch and thread a matching chain through it. Now you have a unique - and fabulous - pendant.
Turn one into many
Do you have a large piece of jewellery featuring numerous gemstones? Too large or ornate to wear easily? This is the perfect piece to have broken down into a number of smaller, more delicate pieces, creating one jewellery item for each member of the family.
Mixed metal metamorphosis
Are you someone who doesn’t wear yellow gold? Or perhaps you don’t like to wear silver? If you have a piece of vintage jewellery that you would wear except for the metal colour or type, you can have it changed. You can talk to your jeweller about having the item dipped in a new metal, or have the entire piece remade if necessary.
